Mission Poop & 2 week Update

Miss Liyah is now 2 weeks and 1 day old. It seems like just yesterday we brought her home from the hospital. She is 8lbs 2oz now and is more alert to her surroundings. She loves watching what is going on around her, it's amazing to watch her. She has discovered that crying will get her things, so she makes wonderful use of that but she still sleeps great through the night. She wakes up usually once. Jason and I will go to sleep around midnight and she will wake up around 3am to eat and then goes right back to sleep with no issues, then will wake up around 7am - then we stay up for the day. I try and nap when she naps but there is so much to do around here, but I love every second of it and I just can't wait to watch her grow even more!

Jaliyah had her DR appointment on Saturday and we told discussed her constipation issue - he recommend changing her formula to the soy version of what we were already giving her. So afterwards I went straight to the store and got the soy. The first night went well, I thought it was going to work. But by Sunday she was even more constipated and her bowel movements became hard and pebble-like, which is not good. I decided to do some research and found several sources saying DRs should NEVER recommend soy formula for constipation because soy will make it worse .... WHAT?! My poor little girl was in pain and I was so mad and am furious with her doctor. So I continues researching and decided to put her on a formula for gentle/sensitive stomachs. I bought Good Start Gentle Plus, it is now Wednesday and Jaliyah is doing great - we found a solution :)

I never thought I would be so excited to see poop! When I changed her diaper after switching her to Gentle Plus, and saw wonderful peanut butter consistency newborn poop - it was a party!

Mission Poop

My poor poor punkin is still having some problems doing the dirty #2 deed. However, I stopped giving her Karo Syrup to see if her own system would work itself out. She went once the day I stopped the syrup. Then yesterday she went twice! I was so proud, the only thing is - is that it still takes quite the show to go poop. She wiggles and cries and then I cry cuz she is crying and I don't know what to do to help her. Being a new mommy is so emotional haha. Plus, I don't know why, but I am expecting a poopy diaper every time I change her lol and I know that is not supposed to happen, but every time I go to change her I prepare for poop! Silly mom.

So, she has a doctors appointment Saturday morning and I will be asking what formula to put her on because I believe that her formula is what is causing this problem. Liyah is currently on Enfamil Premium Lipil, so we will see what the doc suggests we try.

OH! I bought the suppository at the pharmacy, got it home, and just couldn't do it.

One week old!

Jaliyah is one week old today. This past week has been uh-may-zing. She has been a great baby - sleeping wonderfully and eating well. She only wakes up twice a night and once she is done feeding, she goes right back to sleep. However, we have come into one problem already - constipation. The poor little girl tries so hard to poop that she cries and it just breaks my heart. Her grandma on her fathers side told me a nice home remedy for baby constipation is putting Karo Syrup in the bottle, so we tried it. It did work but only temporarily so I called her pediatrician and he told me to use an infant suppository. I am kinda iffy on this, it makes me nervous. We will see what happens..

She has her two week check-up on Saturday, can't wait to see how much she has gained!

As a first time mom, this first week has been full of different emotions. I am scared that I am not doing good enough, but am really doing my best. She means everything! Her daddy has fallen in love with her, it is the cutest thing. He has been a huge help with getting up in the middle of the night and letting me sleep, and with everyday tasks while I am healing.

Can't think of anything else going on so I will leave you with some pictures from when she was born..

Elisha's Essentials

So far, in my first few days of being a mother, I have found my first "couldn't live without" product. The AlwaysClean Pacifier by BebeSounds. The pacifier will automatically close if the baby drops it our of his or her mouth, or if momma accidentally drops it. This protects the pacifier nipple from getting dirty and unsanitary for baby which helps save mommy some time.

This pacifier also locks shut for easy travel. The handle comes down and snaps onto the sides of the closed pacifier. It is SO easy to just throw it in your purse or diaper bag and it is ready to use when arriving at your destination, no cleaning necessary.

I found it for $3.99 at Motherhood Maternity.

Labor & Delivery

Hello all :) I have 4 followers now! How exciting :)

Jaliyah is here, she arrived April 6th, 2010 at 10:03pm. Weighing in at 7 lbs 10 oz and 22 inches long, here is my baby girl..

We got to the hospital at 7:30am and I was started on Pitocin at 8:30am. My contractions started immediately but were not painful by any means. At 12:30pm I was only 1.5 cm dilated so my DR broke my water. Ohhhhh man here came the contractions! It was so sudden and they were one on top of another, nothing like I ever imagined. I tried really hard to deal with it but I couldn't take it, I opted for an epidural at 3:30pm when I was 3 cm dilated. It's really amazing how no matter how much pain you are in, you can sit still for those 8 minutes magically haha.

I tried to sleep, but I couldn't. I only got shut eye for about 30 minutes, I was just too anxious - not to mention there was like 10 people in the room with me. Around 8:00pm the pressure became intense. I always thought the epidural shielded you from all pain - nope! It helped with contraction pain but not the pressure of my little girl moving down. It became incredibly unbearable and I asked to be checked. Soon as my nurse checked me, she said "Oh wow, I'll get the delivery table ready." I freaked! I became so nervous, I cried haha. I had so many emotions going through my mind - I was going to be a mom! Anyways - I started pushing at 9:10pm and my baby girl made her appearance at 10:03pm. No episiotomy, but I did tear slightly.

All in all, I had a wonderful experience with my first labor and delivery. It was amazing. We are home now and the first night went pretty well, I'll be updating on all of our sleepless nights!

Next post will be pictures. Bye all.

The big day!

Tomorrow I will be induced. I've never felt this much emotion all at once, I really don''t know how to handle it (haha). This is a picture I took yesterday, my last belly picture - HUUUGE! I was fine all day until I had the brilliant idea of googling stories of induction. Almost every story I read was some horror 55 hour labor story and now I am completely freaked out and scared. Everyone keeps reassuring me that it will be OK so I am trying to stay positive and remember that in the end, my baby girl will be here.

Daddy is nervous too, we go in at 7:30AM and start the process. I will be posting my L&D story whenever I get home. Oh - and of course, watch for pictures!

I cannot wait to meet you, Jaliyah.

39 Week Check-Up

Today I am 39 W 3 D and I had my 39 week appointment yesterday. Every week since about 36 weeks I have been thinning but never dilating. Same was true for yesterdays appointment, I am totally thinned out but not dilated, so I opted to be induced on my due date.

I'm kind of nervous about being induced, but I've been doing a ton of research, and it does not seem too bad.

April 6th is the big day, so be looking for the L&D story :)

Can't wait to meet my little girl!

Jaliyah's Nursery

We painted her room a white pearl color and added these stick on decal polka dots that I found at Marshall's! I decided that would be the theme of her room, pink and brown polka dots.

If anyone has any questions, leave a comment <3

Nice to meet you!

Let's start with an introduction:

My name is Elisha and I'm the creator of Baybee Luv. I've been trying to find a way to document my experiences, trials, reviews, and memories - I finally found a way - this blog! I tried youtube, and I do have some videos, however my computer and camera hate me and I just cannot figure it out properly. Realistically, a blog works better with a baby on the way :)

I am 22 years old and expecting my first baby any day now! My due date is April 6th and today is the 1st, so soon (I hope) she will be making her debut. Yes, I am having a girl and her name will be Jaliyah.

What this blog will be about:

The ups and downs of being a young single mother, a mother in general, a working mother, a student juggling motherhood and all the in between. I will review products, post pictures and updates of Jaliyah and I, shopping deals all us mothers can benefit from, and whatever else my heart desires or you all request :)
