Day 3 - Yummy Fingers!

Formula v. Cereal

The past couple of days have been quite eventful with miss Jaliyah. The past month, month in a half she has been wonderful with sleeping through the night. She would go down around 10pm and not wake up until 5ish in the morning to eat then go right back to sleep for a few more hours. However, the past couple nights she has been waking up every 2 hours to eat. She is acting like this during the day now too, like she just isn't full and constantly wants to eat, eat, eat! I have been tossing back and forth the idea of starting her on rice cereal or upping her formula amount. I think I have decided on cereal.

I have been told by her pediatrician not to start her on rice cereal until after 4 months old. However, he has proven to me time and time again that he found his degree in a cracker jack box. Plus, for years people (including my entire family) have been giving their children cereal as early as a month and a half and no one was hurt. With this said, I will be venturing to buy some cereal this weekend and test it out a bit. See how Jaliyah takes it and if it affects her fullness.

Attitude, attitude, attitude!

In the past week or so, Jaliyah has developed some sort of hatred towards my mother. It's kind of funny but not. My mother has been around Jaliyah almost everyday since birth, but in the recent days whenever my mom picks her up or talks to her, kisses her, anything, Jaliyah starts crying. Well, last night it was terrible. It broke my heart. Jaliyah was in her swing and my mom knelt down and picked her up to change her diaper. Liyah started whimpering but nothing terrible, then she blew up! She started doing the whole no breathe cry and I was freaking out, telling my mom to hurry with the diaper change. Before the diaper change was done, I had to pick Liyah up because she started choking really hard and then threw up everywhere from crying so hard! My heart broke, and she still continued crying until I took her upstairs without my mom.

What is that about?!

Time for a change

One thing that I didn't realize would change when becoming a mother is friends. I started realizing it when I was pregnant. I wouldn't get called as much and hardly saw most of my friends because I could not go out and get shit faced like everyone else. I've always been able to tell myself that if they don't stick with me through my journey then it was OK to let them go. However, one of them who DID stick with me through my journey started to unstick after the baby - which I never expected.

So I was down to like two good friends and as of yesterday it is now one. Have a child makes you put your life in perspective and help you see who and what are toxic for you and your baby. I suppose it was time for this change, even though it hurts.

Time for a smile..

Is it worth it? (vent)

When is it OK to take a risk to pursue your dream?

My whole life I wanted to be a mommy, I had 2 miscarriages before I gave birth to Jaliyah. She is everything to me, she is sleeping on me right now as I type this and I wouldn't have it any other way! While trying to balance being a first time mommy, I am also going to college to pursue a Business degree. The other dream I've had my entire life is to own my own business.

I got laid off from my job at a dealership about a year before Jaliyah was born so I planned on going back to work after she was about 3 months old. She is now a little over 2 months old so that time is approaching. HOWEVER, last week I had an idea for a company and I so badly want to pursue it and see where it takes me. This is what I've wanted to do for so long and I finally have an idea that could work!

But...there's always a but. Jaliyah's daddy works and makes OK money, but I don't think it's enough for me to be a stay at home mom much longer. Originally, that was the plan anyways - for me to go back to work - and I really didn't have a problem with it. But now, I have this idea and I feel so torn.

I just don't know if it's worth the risk of the business possibly failing, and end up going back to work anyways. It's frustrating beyond belief..I want to be there for Jaliyah's first word, first step, first everything but maybe it's just not feasible right now?

Anyways..I'm excited for the thunderstorms that are on their way! It'll be Jaliyah's first!

Mother 101

PUT YOUR CHILD IN A CAR SEAT/BOOSTER SEAT!

Seriously...read this

A mother , in my state, didn't put her child in the proper restraint and as as result, the child fell out of the car and she RAN OVER HER OWN CHILD. Come on now...

Some people just shouldn't have children. All three of her children were not in a booster seat! Ugh..

Wohoo Children's Place!

I was just looking online for toys and went to Children's Place and they have $3.99 mix and matches! Plus shipping is only $5 no matter what.

Welcome Teething!

I've never heard of a 2 month old teething until I met mine! I was not expecting this to happen so soon, she gnaws on anything in her arms reach, so I decided that is a great excuse to go toy shopping hehe She has a couple teething things that I got at my baby shower, but I think she needs more - she seems to get bored easily (just like her momma!) So expect a haul later for sure.

Does anyone else's LO start teething early?

I never thought of buying toys before she was here, I really didn't think she'd be interested so soon - surprise surprise!

I'm going to try and get some video of Liyah trying to laugh - it is tooooo funny, I caught it in a picture though..

O-My!

I was reading on CAFEMOM and they featured this article, 85% of Kids' Drinks, Snacks Could Contain High Levels of Lead.

There is a long list of over 100 products, even organic products, that are tainted with lead including popular Dole, Minute-Maid, and Kroger products!

Take a look.

Time Flies!

Wow, My baby is a little over 2 months old now and I already am sad she is growing up. They really do grow up so fast lol she is alert to everything around her, she is following me when I walk away from her or around her, holding her head up like a champ and every time she see's me she smiles and it melts all my insides :) OH! And she has discovered her hands, they never leave her mouth (as you will see in the photo below) .. EVER. Even when she is sleeping, it's quite cute.

She had her first shots last weekend and it broke my heart. I refused a couple of them because they just wanted to do so many and it concerned me. She got 1 in each thigh and an oral vaccine. The oral she spit right in their faces, which was hilarious lol. The first shot in her thigh she cried so hard her lips turned purple. I instantly picked her up and held her and apologized over and over until the nurse reminded me we still had one more to go. She didn't cry as hard the second time but was still not pleased. I'm making her daddy go next time because I just can't do it lol.

Jaliyah has now graduated to 4 ounce bottles every feeding, not just before bed. Sometimes she doesn't finish the whole thing but it is helping her go longer between feedings so mommy can do more homework! My semester with one class is almost up, in about one week it will be done. Next semester is two classes - great!

I'm going to start doing picture hauls of great deals and things I find for baby! So keep a look out for those, I'm sure I'll be going shopping sometime soon. For anyone ho uses Good Start Gentle Plus (Like me!) they are on sale for $19.95 at Kroger, and if you sign up at the Gerber website, they send $6.00 off coupons! Great deal.

Schedule?

I am trying to get Jaliyah on a schedule but I think I am finding it is too soon. She is feeding on demand right now, and takes mini 20 minute naps throughout the day. She has slept through the night twice in a row, and not again since. It was nice while it lasted! lol I am taking 1 class this semester because of having a new baby, and it is already challenging making time for assignments while having her on my hip all day, it's going to get even harder next semester with more classes.

We had our first road trip and she did amazing, it was only 2 hours but she slept most of the way. I never knew I would need so much for a one night stay away from home with a baby lol I had 3 bags for her and 1 for me! And you know what I learned? I STILL didn't have enough clothes for her! But those munchkin bag dispensers came in super handy on the trip.

Biggest milestone in the past couple weeks is she now socially smiles whenever she is played with :) yipee!

I'm looking for ideas of products to review and questions to cover. Don't hesitate to give ideas!
