Night Terrors

The past couple weeks I have noticed Jaliyah waking up in the middle of the night screaming - not crying - screaming. She would always go right back to sleep and I figured she just was having a bad dream.

My poor little one year old baby is having night terrors. For those of you who do not know what night terrors are, it is one of the most scariest things you will ever experience as a parent. see here for info

Last night was the worst yet. Around 1:30 in the morning (Jaliyah was in bed with me) she sat up, eyes wide open, and started screaming a way - I've never heard her scream like this. She then started to jump away from whatever was scaring her. With night terrors, its suggested that the parents do not try and wake the child up because it can create a worse terror. So I left her alone and was waiting for it to past but she then jumped into the headboard of the bed. I had no choice but to grab her and she preceded to flail and throw herself out of my arms and flop around the bed. I was so scared and it was so unsettling to watch this. After about 15 minutes she started to calm down and allowed me to hold her and comfort her. She then fell back asleep like nothing ever happened.

From the research I have done, the only cause of night terrors is sleep deprivation. Jaliyah takes naps though and sleeps about 10-11 hours a night. So I'm really not sure what's going on. I am going to speak to the pediatrician and see what he thinks. All I know is I don't ever want to watch Jaliyah go through this again.
